Thousands of jobs have been lost due to the deadly coronavirus, and big companies who have worked hard day and night to keep their name in the industry have permanently closed down.

Hospital beds are flooded with people suffering from a mere sore throat or cough. Doctors and nurses work under pressure to save lives with little or no equipment. The number of deaths rises each day. This is not what we signed up for, as tweeps would say.

Social media feeds are deluged with videos and posts captioned, "Rest in peace, we will always love you."

Should we really toast to a new year?
